My southern education continues

This is my first posting on my new blog. What should I write about? hmm....the south! I traveled for the first time to new orleans, la last week for about a 24 hour spell. here's what I learned:

1. the correct pronunciation of new orleans is "nawlins'"
2. some words are pronounced in french and some aren't
3. douchebag behavior is not limited to frat boys. business men who declare loudly at the top of their lungs "I need some tits and ass" are also welcome in NOLA
4. catfish really tastes like the bottom of the swamp
5. chicory coffee needs to be sold in every supermarket across the us
6. beignets and 24hr beignets are the best gift our french friend's bestowed upon the u.s
7. cockroaches can skillfully fly in places other than south america (they are also just as large)
8. you can buy underwear on bourbon street at midnight and it's not even bejeweled
9. lifelike, plastic-ish, alligator heads as souvenirs are pretty disturbing
10. girls (no matter how meagerly endowed) will still flash their goods for colored, plastic beads. mardi gras is not needed any longer as an excuse
11. never stay at the royal sonesta on bourbon street unless you plan on staying up all night
12. you can hear all manner of mediocre blues band at any hour of the day
13. you can get all your gaudy, old world antiques on one street in the french quarter
14. my 2nd visit to the mississippi river made my jaw drop
15. deciding on which ghost/tomb/voodoo tour to take is a real challenge
16. whatever you like to eat is probably available deep fried or as bbq with a side of hot sauce
17. gulf coast storms are pretty scary and fast
18. continental likes to stow luggage after saying "they'll gate check it" and then not tell you where they hid it! i love hide and seek!
19. The W in the french quarter has a huge bathroom and a tiny main room
20. don't ever ever ever try to fly across the country in a mere 48 hours or less
